GROWTH
&
Stony Brook Dermatology represents the gestalt of years of clinical and research faculty
synthesizing their medical expertise, ethical and core values, and most importantly, their shared
interest in improving the lives of patients afflicted with dermatologic conditions. Every organization
evolves through iterations of best practices, milestones, and leadership goals; the department of
dermatology has grown. Growth is a function and consequence of many circumstances both positive
and negative, and it has been through these learning experiences that we have transformed what we
look like, what we look at, and ultimately what we are about. The overarching goal of the
department, has always been to provide excellence in patient care. This is what we have consistently
delivered and today, we provide that in broader scope, practice, and setting. This is the
amalgamation of bright minds, thoughtful approach, and breadth of exposure that together make us
a practice of distinction.
May 1, 2017 we opened the doors of our new 17,000 sq. ft. medical practice, a monumental
departure from the revered Technology Park where we began practicing dermatology so many years
ago on a much smaller scale, with an even smaller complement of faculty and residents. In 2015 this
was a collective vision, in 2016 we thought the prospect would never become a reality, and in 2017
we realized that our real journey was just beginning. Our footprint on eastern long island was
further enhanced with the opening of a multidisciplinary Stony Brook Medicine facility known as
Advanced Specialty Care where we opened our first satellite location to accommodate patients on
the western Suffolk/Nassau border. It has been surreal.
As Chairman, I am proud to share this vision and our past, present, and future
accomplishments with you, the distinguished alumni and friends of our department.
