3stepIT Annual Report 2020 design review June 18 v2 - Report - Page 37
Circularity has been central to our business model from day one. We find value where
others might only see waste: value in terms of revenue, productivity, efficiency, and
As we grow and develop, our customers are also becoming
more ambitious about sustainability. They are demanding
more of their partners because the world is demanding
more of them. 2019 saw unprecedented action on climate
change. As the world emerges from the pandemic, we can
only expect this focus to return.
Our purpose, to take care of the world’s
technology, is a powerful starting point
for our work.
This is backed by our circular business model, and
our vision to lead the world in sustainable technology
The effects of the climate crisis are now clear, and action is happening worldwide. This
is changing the priorities of every business and every individual.
Our business model is uniquely placed to contribute
towards solving three large scale, global problems –
climate change, electronic waste and the digital divide,
an inequality which means not everyone can access the
benefits of technology.
Our customers are looking at this situation too and know
that they need to act. They want trusted partners, like
3stepIT, to help them. By building ways to tackle these
challenges and committing to act, we will transform not
only our own impact, but that of our customers.
Climate change is a real and an increasing threat. As the
world warms, sustaining current levels of consumption
become increasingly untenable.
At the same time, we also need to ensure that what we do
makes a real contribution to global progress: for that, we
look to the UN Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs).
Even as we become more aware of this, electronic
waste is contributing more to the problem. The demand
for technology continues to climb and far too much IT
equipment unnecessarily reaches landfill. According to the
UN Global E-waste Monitor5, a record 53.6 million metric
tonnes of electronic waste was generated worldwide in
2019, up 21 percent in 5 years. This is the equivalent of 14.5
Eiffel Towers of electronic waste every day.
It also wastes an opportunity to help people. While
devices are discarded by some, others are excluded from
the benefits of technology because it is out of reach.
Many people stand to benefit from a healthy secondary
of electronic waste was
generated worldwide in 2019,
up 21 percent in 5 years.
The process around disposal of IT equipment
helps us ensure that we as a business reduce
the environmental impact. This process was the
reason why we chose 3stepIT in the first place..
