“
THE CULTURE OF U-HIGH IS A FAMILY,
“
AND PART OF BEING IN A FAMILY IS
TAKING CARE OF EACH OTHER.
Barbara echoed her son’s sentiments,
saying, “It’s the family part that makes
it stand out above and beyond – the
idea that you make bonds that you
carry forever. As a teacher, the best
thing about the K-12 experience is
that you follow your kids all the way
through. I taught kids in fourth grade,
and I was there at their graduation.”
“The culture of U-High is a family, and
part of being in a family is taking care
of each other,” said Dr. Benton.
That sense of family was never more
meaningful to Barbara than when
her sister, Kay, was fighting cancer
and passed away. She shared, “I
was her primary caregiver. The Lab
School was so understanding and so
supportive. Afterwards, Daddy said, ‘I
want to do something for the school.’”
Barbara’s father, the late Richard
Fenton Jr., made a donation to ULS to
name Barbara’s classroom in honor
of his grandsons and as a gesture of
appreciation.
Dr. Benton shares his grandfather’s
appreciation for the school. As an
adult, he has often reflected upon the
impact of the well-rounded nature of
his ULS experience. That included
the standout academic environment,
Barbara’s father, the late Richard Fenton Jr.,
made a donation to ULS to name Barbara’s
classroom in honor of his grandsons and as a
gesture of appreciation.
