George Threatt, Jr
September 3, 1953 - November 23, 2019
After completing his studies at Central Georgia Technical College; George Threatt took on the
biggest career move one could see as possible when he began what would become a lifetime
career in the world of radio.
In 1978 George Threatt; who would later be known in the Radio Industry, as “Big George”
started working at Radio Station WIBB when he was hired by Georgia Radio Hall of Fame Inductee Hamp Swain. Soon after in 1980 “Big George” became Program Director for WIBB,
WXFM and WXKO. In 1995 he joined WVKX as Operations Manager; while also, working the
afternoon drive from 3 to 7pm-Monday through Saturday.
For two years in the early 1990’s he became Chapter President of the S.E. Chapter of the
YBPC (Young Black Programmers Coalition); later to be known as, NBPC. With all of his talents and knowledge of the industry “Big George” earned the Program Director of the Year
Award from Billboard Magazine. Soon after, he achieved the success of receiving the Music Director of the Year Award from Radio & Records and has obtained over 50 Gold Albums from
various performing artists. “Big George” has received over 30 to 40 Awards from various organizations and with 38 years in the Radio Industry. George Threatt… Radio’s “Big George” had
the Radio Talent that stood the test of time.
