OF A ROSE CHICKEN
FROM FRESHLY LAID EGG
TO YOUR KITCHEN TABLE
EGGS
Upon arrival the eggs are disinfected. They are then placed in an incubator that maintains a constant temperature of 37°C. The eggs are automatically turned several times a day, in exactly the same way that a hen
will turn her own eggs when she hatches them herself.
After 18 days in the incubator, they are transferred to a hatchery, after which the chickens come out after
three days. The next day they are delivered to the farmer where they have to grow up.
The chickens are transported from the barn to the plant in specially trucks with automatic climate control
(temperature and humidity) to ensure optimal conditions.
LIFE IN THE BARN
Chickens enter the barn when one day old. The first few days the chickens are fed on paper, to ensure that
they can easily find the feed. The chickens roam freely in the barn, in an optimal indoor climate (temperature, ventilation and light), that ensures the best possible conditions. The chickens have free access to feed
and water and the floor is covered with bedding to give the chickens a soft surface and the opportunity to
scrape and forage.
A high focus on biosafety and hygiene, ensures salmonellafree chickens. The producer inspects the chickens at least twice a day, and the light is switched off for a minimum of 6 hours daily to ensure that the
chickens can rest undisturbed. We ensure a very low antibiotic consumption and never use preventive treatments (only for real needs) or hormones.
CAPTURE AND TRANSPORT
Trained staff ensures a calm capture of the chickens, and authorized, specially-trained truck drivers are
responsible for transporting the chickens to the slaughterhouse.
Short transportation to the slaughterhouse, with a guaranteed average time on the road under 2 hours.
Equipment and trucks are washed and disinfected after each transport.
SLAUGHTER
Certified and competent staff, a designated welfare inspector, gives safe and effective anesthesia before
slaughter. The foot pad health is assessed in each herd as a measure of animal welfare. The chickens are
inspected by veterinarians before and after slaughter.
