Selective laser sintering (SLS) is a professional additive manufacturing technology for plastics 3D
printing. With an SLS 3D printer, you can create plastic parts based on CAD Data .
The SLS 3D printer uses a laser as an energy source which selectively melts powdered plastic material,
fusing them together into a 3D printed part. This technology is part of Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF),
one of the most advanced and reliable technologies in the 3D printing field of additive manufacturing.
Using 3D data from a CAD model, the laser melts the plastic material exactly at the pre-defined areas in
the powder bed of the additive manufacturing system. After the melting process is completed, the
building platform is lowered, and a new layer of powder is added. This process repeats layer by layer
until the part is completed.
It is not a matter pressing the button and printing a finished device. There are a number of pre and post
printing processes that need to be completed. These processes affect the colour,flexibility, surface finish
and strength of the device.
