Kayla Jackson
Kayla Jackson is multi-medium visual artist, classically
trained vocal musician, emcee, writer, spoken word poet
and educator from New Orleans, Louisiana.
Kayla received her Master’s degree in English Literature
from Tulane University, where she was the co-Founder
and co-Captain of their slam poetry team, Rhyme Verses
Rhythm, who placed 7th in the International Collegiate
Union Poetry Slam Invitational (CUPSI) competition. In
2017, she was the recipient of the Senior Service Award in
Creative Writing for developing new directions for creative
writing at Tulane and expanding poetry’s audiences both
in Louisiana and beyond. Mentor for Poetry Performed
Dr. Salmon Shomade
Dr. Salmon Shomade is an associate professor of political
science at Emory University’s Oxford College. Having
earned a combined total of five degrees, including a JD,
an MBA, and a PhD, he is most proud of his first undergraduate degree, from Clark Atlanta University where
he met his lovely wife, Dr. Beretta Smith-Shomade. He
is the author of Decision-Making and Controversies in
State Supreme Courts (2018) and the forthcoming Colonial Legacies and the Rule of Law in Africa. He enjoys
working with future generations of African-American
scholars.
