ACT-SO CHAIR
Freda Hammonds
Chairperson - ACT-SO
Today’s events
provide a wonderful
opportunity for our
community to come
together and witness
the culmination of
achievement from
our youth in the areas
of STEM, Performing Arts, Humanities, Music, and
Business. My name is Freda Hammonds and I am the
ACT-SO Chair.
It is a great pleasure to welcome all of you to the 43rd
NAACP Afro-Academics, Cultural,
Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO)
Awards ceremony.
For over 100 years, the NAACP has been a
tremendous advocate and source of support for the
Youth in our community. From the inception of
the Youth Council to the creation of the ACT-SO
formerly known as the Olympics of the Mind, the
NAACP has educated, challenged and cultivated the
next generation of leaders. ACT-SO is the place where

students can explore academic and creative passions
unapologetic and free from judgment. Our Olympians
have take risks in a creative, nurturing space to create
art, stories, designs, dance, music, and more. Today
we will honor those efforts!
ACT-SO is the link between dreams and reality for
every student who participates. It is my hope that
our ACT-SO Olympians pulsate throughout their
communities leaving a lasting effect on all they
encounter. On behalf of the DeKalb County NAACP,
ACT-SO Committee, I am pleased to recognize these
young, talented and gifted students who have worked
tirelessly to perfect their skills in their respective
areas of competition. We salute the parents, coaches,
and mentors who have worked alongside you and
contribute to your success.
Please accept my best wishes for an enjoyable
celebration and continued success. We believed it
and therefore we ACT-SO!ACT-SO participants who
competed in our recent local competition.
As we present the honorees, we respectfully ask that
you consider supporting our ACT-SO program with
your financial donations.
