Action Progress
In September Leaving Certificate Russian was introduced in Maynooth PPS as a new subject. In addition, PPLI
delivered Leaving Certificate Russian Saturday School classes in Dublin (where numbers have been growing,
catering for 100 students), Galway City and Limerick. From September Russian Saturday school classes were
delivered online due to COVID-19, except in Galway where it was possible to continue with face-to-face
classes.
PPLI teachers awarded 300 estimated grades to Saturday school Leaving Certificate 2020 students.
Russian is being delivered as a Junior Cycle short course, a TY module, and Leaving Certificate subject in St
Oliver’s Community College in Drogheda.
Transition Year Russian is taught by eight PPLI Russian teachers in 18 schools in Dublin, Kildare, County
Galway, Waterford, Offaly and Roscommon. This year in total 1,024 students have had a chance to sample TY
Russian modules.
Impact
