Culture Night
For the second time, the Languages Connect team worked with the European Commission Representation in
Ireland to host an event as part of Culture Night which tied in with the European Day of Languages, a Council
of Europe Initiative. However, this time, due to Covid, it had to be reimagined and held online.

Participants were invited to participate in 20-minute taster classes via easy to access online platform

Thirteen language teachers were sourced with the help of the Goethe Institute, Gaelchultúr, the Italian
Cultural Institute, the Cervantes Institute, the Alliance Française Dublin, the Lithuanian Embassy, and
through several existing contacts.
•
Welcome video was created with input from both Languages Connect and the European Commission
•
Thirteen different languages to choose from (Chinese, French, Dutch, German, Greek, Irish, Italian,
Japanese, Lithuanian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian and Spanish), and a total of 52 classes throughout the
evening
•
Attendance of 189 participants, from primary pupils to retirees, which represented a 22% increase on last
year
Participants were asked to complete an online survey after the event and they gave it an average of
4.6 out of 5 stars.
