Euroguidance Ireland/Languages Connect: Careers with Languages Competition 2020
PPLI and NCGE launched a joint competition in September aimed at senior cycle students. It was to raise
awareness of interpreting within European institutions, and how an MFL can be combined with Irish for
careers within European organisations. Students had to create a Europass profile and a CV and cover letter, all
in whatever language they were studying at school.

80 entries in 4 different languages
•
Students who are very passionate about languages and have a keen interest in European current affairs,
with some having spent a term abroad, others had done work experience abroad and some had visited
European institutions in other European countries
•
The winner from Donegal received an iPad and an interpreting workshop with Susan Folan, the director of
the MA in Conference Interpreting in NUIG, and the two runners up from Limerick and Galway received
vouchers
•
The competition raised awareness amongst students, MFL teachers and guidance counsellors about
interpreting as a career
