Due to the success of the Think Global, Act Local approach in 2020, #ThinkLanguages in 2021 will follow
the same format

Monday 22nd November has been chosen for various logistical reasons

Some elements of the format will most likely evolve again in 2021, given the ongoing changing
circumstances

Explore ways to increase involvement of parents, teachers, principals and other stakeholders.

Research extending the programme beyond a one-day event, to something TY students can get involved
in throughout the year.

Trial a link between primary and post-primary schools, depending on restrictions

Research parent’s attitudes towards foreign languages and their influencing behaviour when it comes to
their children’s subject choices for both Junior and Senior Cycle

Produce various supports based on the findings of this research
Leaving Cert Subject Choice
•
Communicating more information about the variety of foreign language subjects available for the
Leaving Certificate and the various study methods that students can avail of
Open Day/Night Toolkit
•
Roll out Toolkit to schools in order to support teachers trying to promote their languages to incoming first
year students
•
Include lots of fun interactive games and activities in all four Junior Cert languages, as well as Z-folds
•
Ensure schools are fully equipped with the best possible information and resources to encourage the take
up of languages in post-primary
Stakeholders
•
Continue to work with the many stakeholders across the HEIs, education agencies, industry bodies,
embassies and cultural institutes to promote all facets of language learning and develop innovative ways
to work together on various initiatives, competitions and campaigns.
