The Origin of Hickory
The American hardwood industry dates back to the first European
settlers, who had a wealth of experience in processing native
hardwoods in North America.
Few other countries can boast the success America has had in
the sustainability of its hardwood forests, due to the intensive
application of Best Management Practices (BMP). The hardwood
forests of America support a vibrant healthy standard of timber,
as well as a large diverse wild life population. Hickory is therefore
not classified as a species in danger. Hickory is sort after for
many applications due to its strength, toughness hardness; and is
commonly used in tool handles, drumsticks, baseball bats, wooden
wheels, furniture and flooring.
Horses & Hickory
Due to it’s high strength, Hickory was traditionally used in the
1800’s, for the manufacture of horse cart wheels. Today, hickory
is widely used for many uses in our daily life.
