BREEDER INFORMATION
We have been leading the way in the fallow
industry since 1998 when Colby started
running a fallow meat operation, which he
quickly shifted to focus on antler growth.
Located in Valley Mills, TX, Hatada Ranch
was founded in 1987 when the first
super exotic stepped foot on the 1,200
acre ranch.
Now, with over 20 years of a closed herd
and being blessed with making the right
decisions on breedings, we consistently
produce the biggest fallow bucks. Not only
do we boast the current SCI world record
and numerous other gold medal deer, our
breeding stock is highly sought after. We
started a new era of excitement in 2015,
and took the fallow breeding market to
the next level, when we sold our breeder
Irish Elk (now known as Thunderstruck).
Bullwinkle, who came from our breeding
program, also made a splash in 2018.
Through hard work and dedication from
Doug Dutschmann and his family, Hatada
Ranch now sits on over 2,000 acres of
the most excellent terrain.
Our current breeders are a powerhouse
group led by Mr Big, Chief, Mighty
Moose, Sledgehammer, and Royal. Our
younger up and comers are Mpressive
War Cry, Geronimo and Legend. We are
thrilled with our current 2 and 3 year old
crops. Sola Fe Ranch is the ranch to visit
if you want to start a herd with the most
proven genetics and extensive pedigrees.
This is where all the BIG bucks come from!
Along with his sons, Courtlin and Catlin,
Doug was able to expand the herd into
20+ exotic species.
By allowing the large herds to roam
freely throughout the ranch, plant spring
and winter plots, provide year-round
supplemental feeding and quarterly
worming, it is apparent that health and
consistency are key!
State-of-the-art irrigation systems and
lush vegetation help to provide each
species with the proper terrain.
Hatada Ranch prides itself on being a
family-oriented ranch that specializes in
giving you exotics with superior genetics.
Better known as “Red Gate” for its
colorful entrance 15 miles north of
Edinburg, La Coma ranch embraces a
history as boldly painted as its nickname.
The ranch started in 1883 as 130,000
acre tract of land purchased from
King Ranch by Rhode Islander William
Frederick Sprague; it remains perhaps
the only large holding ever sold twice by
the King Ranch. The ranch was named La
Coma after the native tree with chewable
blue berries that grow on the land.
In 1943, La Coma was purchased from the
King Ranch by brothers Lloyd Bentsen,
Sr. and Elmer.
Today Calvin and Marge Bentsen still
own and run the ranch. Both are avid
big game hunters but have turned their
passion for hunting into conservation
efforts through breeding. What used
to be pasture for Santa Gertrudis and
Bramham cattle is now home to over
26 different exotic species from Africa,
India and Asia. Black Rhinos once thrived
at La Coma Ranch boasting one of the
most successful breeding operations in
the US, but have since moved to Walt
Disney World and different zoos. At La
Coma Ranch we strive to breed with the
best genetics and all of our animals are
on large tracts of land. We look forward
to helping all of our clients improve their
genetics so they can be enjoyed by many
generations to come!
