Spotlight on Schools, sharing good practice nationally
Kassel
The fifth-year link up with Kassel took a different approach.
At first, letters and videos introducing ourselves were shared. However, students in the fifth-year group moved to using
their school email, to contact the German students, at an earlier stage. The teacher in our Kassel partner school and I
agreed that a platform to share our videos would be most successful. The IT department in our partner school in Kassel
offered to create a platform which only the teachers could post videos on, but all students could access.
Both the German and Irish students proceeded to make interesting videos about life in their hometowns and aspects
of the German/Irish culture which might be of particular interest to share. Irish students uploaded presentations on
Halloween, Stand-Up Week, Hurling and Christmas traditions.
It is hoped that in the new year, Zoom ‘meet-ups’ will allow for further engagement and help create deeper connections.
