Loyal donors
encouraging Aboriginal
students since 2005
The Gavin Wanganeen Aboriginal
Scholarship was established in 2005
with the simple goal of supporting
disadvantaged Aboriginal Australian
students undertaking a university degree,
particularly those with a strong desire to
succeed and give back to their community.
More than 50 students have now been awarded
the Scholarship thanks to the support of generous
donors, helping the next generation of these
students to achieve their greatest potential.
“With your support, you are helping me to achieve
my goals. Thank you so much. I couldn’t do it
without you,” said Haley Pickering, scholarship
recipient and Bachelor of Nursing student.

Former teacher and UniSA alumna Mary O’Brien has loyally
supported the Gavin Wanganeen Aboriginal Scholarship since
2010. Through her generosity, Mary has helped so many
students experiencing disadvantage to be able to afford to
study at University.

“It gives me great pride to support the Gavin Wanganeen
Aboriginal Scholarship,” Mary said. “The student recipients
are so deserving of this opportunity, and I can’t wait to
see what they achieve in their future careers.”
Every month, the UniSA Advancement Services team look
forward to the handwritten cards that accompany Mary’s
donations – her selfless kindness truly shines through. Mary is
one of 624 generous donors who support this scholarship.
Together, we can achieve something remarkable
