What are the aims of the project/activity?
On a general level, the aims of the project are
•
to raise awareness about the presence of the target language and the community of its learners and speakers in
the school.
•
to develop an inclusive and plurilingual school environment where all the languages spoken by the school
community are valued.
In the context of this project, Mandarin Chinese is the language featured. It also aims
•
to create a simulated immersion experience of the Chinese Spring Festival
(Chinese New Year) in the school environment.
•
to provide opportunities for students to engage with Chinese language and cultural activities as driven and
guided by the tasks presented as treasure hunt missions.
How did you plan for it?
Creating an immersive experience
•
To create an immersive experience and a festive atmosphere, decorations and artworks were put in place from
the entrance and extended throughout the whole school.
•
To reflect the traditional Chinese culture, red envelopes were used as containers of important clues, puzzles, and
directions for the treasure hunt.
