LAKES AND PONDS
You can enjoy a calm and relaxing paddling
experience on a serene lake or pond. You
KAYAKING
TIPS
can glide leisurely over the surface of the
water without any of the hustle and bustle
back at the shore.
If you are kayaking on a larger lake, you
might encounter large waves which could
pose a certain level of danger to you and
your boat.
RIVERS AND CANALS
Waterways in this category are diverse in
shape and size. For example, you might
experience a river that offers a smooth ride
downstream. There are also whitewater
rapids that give you a rush of adrenaline as
you fight through them.
Those who have experience paddling in
rough waters are best suited to these
waterways.
The kayaker still needs to be extra cautious
when navigating these waterways because
they are prone to abruptly changing without
warning, regardless of his or her experience
level. It is possible for activity levels to
change drastically in only a few seconds,
both above and below the surface of the
water.
SEAS AND OCEANS
Sea or ocean activity can also change
rapidly, much like rivers.
Weather conditions, tidal fluctuations, wind
speed, and other elements can further
complicate kayaking in these waters.
A good rule of thumb is to not go too far
from the coast. In order to avoid a mishap,
make sure you take all necessary
precautions.
