•
Support teachers’ needs in CPD, peer collaboration and well-being
•
Prepare teachers for delivering online and blended teaching and learning models
Preparation
PPLI continues to deliver quality CPD programmes through an established framework of support in which
teachers are supported through four phases, covering the key aspects of teaching and learning:
Phase 1: Teachers improve understanding of key concepts and theories through CPD
sessions and group work
Phase 2: Teachers put theories into practice. They receive feedback from PPLI Education Officers and MFL
colleagues in PPLI and schools through class observation and mentoring
Phase 3: Teachers reflect on their practice, share their experiences and good practice through public
events and communities of practice
Phase 4: Teachers become experienced and identify their own areas of expertise. They are invited to
deliver CPD as part of the initial CPD session for new teachers in order to take ownership of
what they have gained from and beyond the support of PPLI
In June 2021, PPLI provided the pre-service training for teachers of the new and lesser taught Leaving
Certificate languages. Eleven Polish, Japanese and Mandarin Chinese teachers participated in the
training.
CPD sessions were delivered, using a hybrid model following public health guidelines, which included:
• Pre-session tasks
• Online webinars
• Workshops
• Post-session tasks
In the three days of training, new teachers established contact with each other and acquired essential
information to support the implementation of their language curriculums in schools.
On the last day of CPD, 10 additional teachers employed in the previous year joined the training. Teachers of
the same and different languages had the opportunity to meet each other and lay foundations for
collaboration before the beginning of the new term. PPLI continued ongoing CPD support for these new
teachers.
