Access to Lithuanian language is supported by PPLI to enhance and further its provision in schools in Ireland.
Short Courses
A Lithuanian Short Course is taught to 16 students in one school in Monaghan.
Transition Year and Leaving Certificate Classes
Lithuanian is offered as a Transition Year module and a new Senior Cycle curricular subject. In 2021, PPLI
deployed two qualified teachers to three schools and one Saturday class.
Based on foundations laid in 2020, one school continued to offer Lithuanian as a Leaving Certificate subject.
Supporting schools and teachers
As Leaving Certificate Lithuanian entered its second year, PPLI continued to support teachers and schools
offering Lithuanian through school visits, classroom observations, and mentoring sessions. PPLI also
delivered language specific Communities of Practice and CPD sessions for teachers.
Saturday classes
To support students who do not have access to the Lithuanian curriculum in their schools, PPLI offered
Leaving Certificate Saturday classes with 15 students taking Lithuanian classes in Dublin.
