Polish is offered in schools across the country and demand is growing. Throughout 2021, PPLI has been
supporting teachers and schools to deliver Polish through short courses, transition year classes and Leaving
Certificate courses.
Short Courses
A Polish Short Course is taught in 10 schools in Dublin, Galway, Cork and
Portlaoise. Merlin College in Galway came on board in 2021 and offers
Polish in the timetable at every stage of the post-primary curriculum. It
is taught as a full course in 1st year. Portlaoise College also introduced
Polish as a full cycle subject for 1st year students. Both groups in
Portlaoise and Galway are a mix of heritage speakers and ab initio
