Taunton to Tamar (95.2 miles)
The Cloverleafs are back. Born out of necessity
during the Covid lockdowns, these fun filled
four-day events have achieved a life of their own.
After we’d enjoyed the many delights of Yorkshire
and Scotland, this third iteration is based in the
beautiful Southwest of England.
19 crews filled the entry list to capacity, and it includes
plenty of winners. Steve and Jenny Verrall, Graham and
Marina Goodwin, Mike and Lorna Harrison, Alan and Tina
Beardshaw and Keith and Norah Ashworth have all enjoyed
the view from the top step of the podium so, no matter
what the weather serves up over the next
few days, the competition is guaranteed
to be red hot.

The Castle Hotel in Taunton proved to be a fine point
of departure and throughout the morning, the crews
busied themselves with the formalities required to get
their numbers, timecards, and road books. Loren Price and
Gill Cotton are well-versed in the pre-rally schedule, and
this dynamic duo effected the signing-on procedures with
customary efficiency. Outside in the car park, Andy Inskip,
Russ Smith and John Cotton checked the cars for safety,
compliance and tended to the occasional mechanical
matter before Geoff Doe, an MSA scrutineer, signed the
cars off as being ‘good to go’.
A quick briefing and welcome by Rally Director Fred
Gallagher and Clerk of the Course, Mark Appleton, preceded
a light lunch. After which the rally assembled on Castle Green
to be flagged away at one-minute intervals from 1.00pm.
This was only a half day of rallying but there was plenty
to get through before the day’s end and within minutes
of leaving Taunton the
first Regularity over the
1925 Bentley Supersports of
Blackdown Hills arrived.
