Worksheet Exercise 1
(Warm-up exercise)
Students’ knowledge of world geography and food items covered in week 2 is activated here, while revising
the sentence structures needed to say where various items are produced. They can be given some time
to try to label the countries without assistance, then the class set of maps can be distributed to help them
fill in any gaps before correction.
In slide show mode, double click on any of the country labels to both move it to correct location and add
correct answer info to grid. While the labels which appear initially on the slide show the name of the
country, the version in the grid uses the appropriate preposition/any required article to complete the
sentence X est produit en Y.
Please note – if using a tablet, this is more reliable with the keyboard than tapping on screen.
The next slide reveals all this information, in case revealing it all in one go suits the class situation or time
constraints.
Geography teacher tip:
When introducing the topic to students at the start of this lesson, explain that they will be looking at the
origin of some products and remind them that some products can come from many different areas. We
were just taking some countries as an example.
An example of apples can be used to begin: D'où vient le yaourt ? On produit des yaourts en Irlande ?
On produit des yaourts en Allemagne ? On produit des yaourts aux États-Unis ?. Similar questions can
then be asked about oranges.
The point is to raise awareness that, although we have selected some products/countries, others are
possible.
