Profile LUC KORDAS
Luc Kordas was born and raised in Wrocław, Poland.
Currently he lives and creates most of his photography between New York
and Europe. His work celebrates timeless, everyday moments. Versatile
in both colour and black and white, he often chooses the latter for his
documentary and street work, seeing monochrome as the more powerful
tool of expression.
An avid traveller who is constantly on the road, he likes to merge
his favourite genres of photography, moving freely between documentary,
portraiture, travel and street photography. He looks for simplicity and raw
unposed emotions, often expressed through a cinematic language where
mystery and darkness are key. A mixture of timing, luck and the trained
eye to recognize the light, the shadows and the characters that have the
potential to tell a good story. His speciality is to discover the untold stories
in the city from someone who is always in the hunt for the next best shot.
He is the author of @thenewyorkchronicles on Instagram
documenting New York streets. Luc had a solar exhibition at the Wild
Project Gallery in The East Village in 2019. He has been featured in The
New York Times, LensCulture, The Guardian and National Geographic
among other publications. He was awarded a Polish Press Photo award
three times and most recently a Grand Prix of the National Geographic
yearly contest. He likes to say his photos are akin to short stories in which
the image could just as well be the beginning, an ending or right in the
middle of the plot.
