Zoé Aczél
Aczél is interested in connecting
with what is inside of her, a way
of introspection that is both
self-confronting and meditative.
Reflecting on her personal
experiences, painting is way of
lamenting the realities of her
existence into visual forms.
Having Synaesthesia, music
often gives her the starting point.
Responding to the emotional
and visual impact sound has
on her, she submerges herself
in the overlapping rhythm and
patterns, which subconsciously
creates the narrative. By
reflecting on the shapes being
brought to the surface, she
is facing her inner struggles
of grief and loss, feelings of
longing and guilt. Dealing with
repressed memories, telling
a story of her own mind, past
in the present. Lamenting in a
painting similarly to how artists
from Eastern countries such as
Persia, Turkey, China, Japan &
India created encyclopaedias and
miniatures to tell religious stories
and illustrate myths. Since her
father passed away, painting
has turned to a more sacred
encounter that often ends up in
biomorphic, surreal dreamscapes
that are signalling his presence
but also him being absent from
the living world. Responding to
different channels of inspiration,
artistic, scientific, philosophical,
and psychological, she often
finds synchronicities happen
in her painting revealing new
information that is connected to
nature and the body as a whole.
