BFAP Magazine 2023 - Flipbook - Page 4
Editors’ letter
Before delving into pages detailing the accomplishments of this
year’s graduating artists from the University of Brighton Fine Art
Painting Course, we must first muse on how to describe the first
and only edition of BFAP Magazine 2023. We enjoy the phrase
Grand Opening as you, the reader, open this magazine to reveal
the wonderful display of talent, hard work, and professionalism.
Grand Opening also conjures up thoughts of the future, which is
very much the topic of this magazine. We have been immensely
proud of all those in our year group and the work that they have
produced, not only this year but over the last three years. As
a last hoorah we want to showcase this by offering all those
visiting this year’s degree show greater insight into the practices
of those exhibiting artists. As well as a space for artists to see
their work highlighted and celebrated within a publication. Each
artist included in this magazine has a selection of featured works
as well as an accompanying interview where they talk about their
practice over the last three years. The magazine also features
an In Conversation with co-editor Abigail Downey and painting
student Em Walker, where third year lead tutor Yvonne Feng
leads a discussion about the challenges of making work through
lockdown, how living in Brighton has created similarities
within the year group, and how we feel about moving into the
professional art world. The production of BFAP Magazine has
been a challenging and joyous endeavour and we are proud to be
able to showcase such incredible work. This publication, through
multiple fundraisers and events, has been our passion project for
over a year. When we first came up with the idea, we couldn’t
have dreamt of such an outcome. We can only hope you enjoy
reading this magazine as much as we have enjoyed making it.
