What is the concept behind your piece,
Is this home??
My reference material for this painting
was old black and white photographs
that I found in a charity shop. I wanted
to project my own feelings of longing
onto the figures and places in these
photographs which resulted in an
uneasy yet nostalgic feel. The use of
old photographs got me thinking about
memory and how memory can be
distorted, and how painting can act as a
tool to convey this.
Is there a specific environment or
material that’s integral to your work?
My work is focused on the feeling of
wanting to be somewhere else, this
place for me is Kenya. Although I don’t
strive for the work to represent this place
exactly, the environment, colours and
feel of this place is integral to my work.

If you could own one piece of art, what
would it be?
Pelican (Stag) by Peter Doig or
Combing the Hair (‘La Coiffure’) by
Degas.
How do you know when a painting is
finished?
Is this home?
2022
Watercolour on paper

I find this much more difficult with
oil paintings to watercolour; with oil
paintings I often overwork them, so I try
to stop before I think it’s finished.
