Our journey to
net zero
Reducing food waste
Our WasteWatch technology, which
helps to monitor and reduce food
waste, is now deployed at more than
400 Sodexo sites.
We continue to push for behaviour change on food waste in the foodservice
industry through our Appetite for Action campaign. We shared our report and
its recommendations with political stakeholders, and subsequently, Defra
issued a consultation on food waste reporting for large businesses,
as we had recommended.
In 2022, new research we commissioned showed that unprecedented pressure on
supply chains led to food buyers across some of the UK’s biggest organisations
reporting a 60% increase in food waste over a six month period. We took action
to demonstrate how a focus on food waste reduction can support supply chain
resilience.
We have partnered with Full Circle Farms to continue our commitment to
sourcing fresh, locally grown ingredients, and reduce food waste across the UK.
Sodexo Live! purchased 1.5 acres of land to grow organic vegetables to be used
in our kitchens, and appropriate food waste from these sites will be returned to
Full Circle Farm for composting, beginning a regenerative process.
More than three tonnes of organic vegetables from
Full Circle Farms has been used across our business.
