Israel’s largest solar project
The largest solar project in Israel,
Ta’anakh, was launched at a festive
ceremony in the Ta’anakh region in the
Southern Jezreel Valley on 20 April by
renewable energy company Teralight,
with the participation of the Minister of
Environmental Protection, Idit Silman.
The giant project, which is initiated
and promoted by Teralight, with
the economic co-operation of the
Moshavim movement, is considered
a national infrastructure project. It
is expected to provide electricity for
approximately a quarter million Israelis
in approximately 63,000 households.
This project will significantly contribute
to Israel’s green energy goals, as well as
boost the local economy. The Ta’anakh
project is expected to operate with
250 MW of installed capacity, which
represents 5.2% of Israel’s green
energy capacity and 1.2% of its overall
electricity capacity.
In a statement by MK Israel Katz,
Minister of Energy and Infrastructure,
he said: “I congratulate Teralight,
Moshavim Movement and the Gilboa
Regional Council on the Ta’anakh
project, an important solar energy
project that will boost the economy of
the region while playing a critical role
in helping the State of Israel achieve its
energy goals. I am pleased to see that
the vision I’m leading at the Ministry of
Energy and Infrastructure is becoming a
reality. Under my leadership, my primary
goal is to promote the development
The ceremony was attended by: Teralight CEO Rani Lifshitz and company Chairman Yonel Cohen; Menora
Mivtachim Chairman Eran Griffel and Menora Group CEO Ari Kalman; CEO of Noga Company – Independent
System Operator Shaul Goldstein; Israel Land Authority Director Yaakov Kwint; CEO of Israel Electric Company
Meir Spiegler; Secretary-General of the Moshavim Movement Amit Ifrach; Head of the Gilboa Regional Council
Oved Nur and others.
of renewable energy sources, primarily
solar and wind power”.
Idit Silman commented, “I welcome
the completion of the project, which
will flow clean solar electricity into the
high voltage transmission network.
This will contribute significantly to
increasing production rates from
renewable energies, as well as
reducing greenhouse gas emissions
and air pollutants in Israel”.
Rani Lifshitz, CEO of Teralight,
explained: “The Ta’anakh project
advances Israel a significant step
towards increasing the use of
electricity produced from clean solar
energy, produced by Blue and White.
The practical meaning of 250 MW in
the Ta’anakh project, on its two parts,
is the supply of electricity to about
60,000 homes in Israel during the first
half of 2024. The project also makes
Teralight a leading player in green
electricity production and supply in
Israel. All in all, we are currently in the
process of establishing and towards
the establishment of solar projects
and storage facilities, with a significant
volume of approximately 1,000 MW
and 375 MW hours, respectively, which
are expected to be connected to the
grid gradually over the next three years
and thus we will be the leading player
in Israel”.

Valmet to retrofit biopower plant
An existing third-party
automation system will be replaced
with a Valmet DNA Automation
System at Oy Alholmens Kraft AB’s
power plant unit AK1 in Pietarsaari,
Finland. The delivery will be
handed over to the customer in
November, 2023. The order was
included in Valmet’s orders received
of the fourth quarter 2022.
“Our other power plant unit
AK2, which is one of the world’s
largest biomass-fired combined
heat and power (CHP) plants, has
been run reliably with the Valmet
DNA since its start-up in 2001.
Now we want to have the same

system for our AK1 unit, too. After
the retrofit, we will have only one
automation system throughout
the entire plant,” said Johannes
Östman, Automation Engineer, Oy
Alholmens Kraft Ab.
“Having only one automation
system makes support and future
updates easier for the customer.
Valmet has extensive experience
and know-how in replacing other
suppliers’ automation systems,”
added Tom Bäckman, Sales
Manager, Automation Systems
business line, Valmet.
Close co-operation between
Alholmens Kraft and Valmet goes
back for decades. One of the latest
projects includes a Valmet DNA
turbine automation retrofit on AK2
last year.
