1: Exploring Target Language Countries
Task D:
Let’s brainstorm!
Task description
Students brainstorm what they know already about the target language and their own language. They may
also have the opportunity to set goals for what they would like to learn.

- Reflect on what they already know about the target country/ies.
- Reflect on the language/s which exist around them.
- Set goals about what they would like to learn about in this module.
Resources
• Loop Game template (page 52).
• KWL Chart (page 53).
Expected time taken 20 - 40 minutes.
• Students complete a loop game as a class group which will
incorporate language and cultural elements.
Task
Outline
• Use a KWL chart to find out what the students already know and
what they would like to know about the target country/ies.
• Each student completes a poster entitled ‘Languages around Me’.
They draw a circle with ME in the middle, they write what
languages they speak/hear at home, then draw another circle to
include the languages they hear/speak in their neighbourhood,
and so on with their school, town etc.
Teachers can also ask
students in small groups
to create their own loop
game for their peers.
