LSU baseball started the season with high
expectations. The team was ranked No. 1 in most
preseason polls. Jay Johnson’s second season as the
Tigers’ head coach kicked off at home on Friday,
Feb. 17 against Western Michigan. With one of the
most productive offenses in the nation, the team
won more than 10 games through the 10-run rule.
The Tigers performed strongly for the first half of SEC
play, sweeping, winning or tying all series. Through
25 games, centerfielder Dylan Crews maintained
an impressively high batting average of .542. The
team remained ranked No. 1 until May 8, after the
Tigers suffered their first SEC series loss to Auburn. The
program concluded the regular season with a 4213 record. After winning their first game in the SEC
tournament, the Tigers lost their next two matchups
and were eliminated in the fourth round of the
tourney. The team returns to Baton Rouge to prepare
for more post-season play and hopes to make a run in
Omaha for the College World Series in June.
