The CompStat Program
TRACKING CRIME PATTERNS
The Compstat program has been used by the Hartford Police Department
for over 16 years and is a 昀椀xture of operational planning. Crime statistics
are gathered over the course of each week and compiled into a summary report. The locations of crime incidents are marked on city maps and
broken down by neighborhoods and districts of the city. The program
requires timely, accurate information about crime patterns. This information is used by commanders to plan quick responses to break up those
patterns. The Compstat report is available weekly on the Hartford Police
Department website.
Prior to restrictions on gatherings caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, HPD
had begun holding monthly “Public Compstat” meetings. Public Compstat meetings are an opportunity for the Police Department to engage
with the community and allow for questions from the audience. These
meetings were held in various community gathering spaces throughout
the City as well as at the Police Department.
The Hartford Police Department continues to hold weekly Compstat meetings virtually to analyze and respond to trends in criminal activity. It is the
intent of the department to resume in-person Compstat meetings in the
future as the COVID-19 gathering restrictions ease.
