WELCOME
Note From Board President & CEO Brigid L. DeVries
The Kentucky Ballet Theatre performance season and
Academy programs are off to a great start. The complete
performance season has been formally announced, and our
professional company is hard at work in the studio. It is our
mission is to be innovative and ensure that the 2023-24
productions continue to include the usual variety of
performances with traditional, modern and neoclassical
ballets performed in truly exceptional venues. Exploring
different performance venues remains a priority, in order to
accommodate our standard repertoire as well as the
inclusion of new choreography and programming. As always
KBT is committed to providing creative works and story
ballets that are affordable, entertaining, and accessible to a
wide variety of audiences.
The creative team at KBT continues to move forward offering some great performance events
for 2023-24. The first performance of the season is Dracula at the Lexington Opera House in
October. A tour of The Nutcracker returns to the Somerset Center for Rural Development
Theater in November, followed by two weekends of The Nutcracker in December, at the
Lexington Opera House. Planning includes returning to some of our favorite venues again this
year like the Pam Miller Downtown Arts Center, for A Night of Ballet in March. The season
concludes with Peter Pan in May at the Lexington Opera House. I am so pleased that our loyal
professional company of dancers continues to exceed all expectations with their quality,
energy, and dedication to the art of ballet.
The KBT team is energized and includes a very active and generous Board of Directors who
have extensive professional experience, offering excellent advice, insight, and support for KBT
operations. Board goals for this year continue to include an emphasis on offering a strong
schedule of Academy classes and activities, with a variety of choices for students.
Educational outreach components for public and private school students and teachers will
include school shows prior to both performances of The Nutcracker in Somerset and
Lexington. The KBT website at www.kyballet.com continues to be a vibrant communication
tool to share ongoing performance event updates, ticketing information, and other activities
for the organization. Our truly exceptional management team includes Artistic Director Norbe
Risco, Academy Director Rafaela Risco, Development Director Sarah Robinson, Office
Administrator Jennifer Reed, and Graphic Designer Ansley Bayless. Additionally, the KBT
Parents Association continues to be a great asset to the organization. Special thanks go to the
PA Coordinator Dr. Oliver Oakley, along with a very active group of volunteers, who remain
dedicated and work tirelessly behind the scenes to help with operations and events.
As the Board President, I continue to be excited to be a part of the growth and positive
atmosphere at KBT. As always we wouldn’t be here without each of you in the audience, so
thank you for being a big part of the KBT family. Your attendance and support at each of the
performances is greatly appreciated, and vital for the continuation and the survival of the KBT
organization.
Please continue to support KBT and enjoy all of the KBT performances this year!!
