District Fellows
News Literacy District Fellowship program
While media literacy mandates gain
momentum across the country,
the media literacy 昀椀eld in practice
lacks both de昀椀nition and classroom
materials that re昀氀ect the way
students consume information.
In fall 2022, we launched the News
Literacy District Fellowship program
for districts interested in reimagining
news literacy learning on a large
scale. Districts are selected each
year for a two-year commitment to
develop sustainable, replicable and
impactful media and news literacy
learning plans to embed into their
districts. NLP provides fellows with
professional learning, curriculum
and community. During the 昀椀rst year,
fellows work with NLP to design
an action plan and in the second
year, implement their proposals.
Our inaugural cohort included
school districts in 昀椀ve states:
Oregon, Utah, NY, Iowa, New Mexico.

Fellowship program.
NewsLitNation News
Literacy Ambassadors
The News Literacy Ambassador Program is a
national initiative to mobilize educators in the 昀椀ght
against misinformation and is a key component of
NLP’s NewsLitNation, a network of news literacy
educators. Ambassadors are essential to NLP’s
effort to build a more news-literate nation, and,
in turn, a more robust, equitable democracy.
Ambassadors work at the grassroots level in their
communities, organizing colleagues and allies to help
advocate for news literacy education. Their work is
critical to turning NLP’s mission into a movement with
a transformative impact on young people around the
nation. During the past year we expanded the program
to 16 ambassadors in 12 states and Washington,
D.C., and we are in the process of bringing new
ambassadors on board in additional locations.
