COLLEGE OF INNOVATION + DESIGN — Dean’s Report
AREAS FOR IMPACT: Access / Affordability / Employability / Research Impact / University Capacity
$100,000 statewide university
competition to develop and reward
student entrepreneurs with promising
ventures and small businesses.
The Idaho Entrepreneur Challenge invests in the state’s
future economic growth and societal impact by
activating our most innovative and entrepreneurial
students. By leveraging campus partners across Idaho,
the 2019 IEC supports on-campus entrepreneurship
events and culminates with the 24 finalist teams in Boise
where they compete for $100,000 in seed money.
Kodi Romero, a recent graduate of the Masters
in Health Science program at Boise State
University, won first place in the social, cultural,
or environmental impact category, taking home
$10,000 in startup funding, as well as an
additional $2,500 in the female entrepreneur
category. Her startup, Simu Daktari brings
telehealth medicine to rural communities in
Kenya, and this summer, Kodi will be flying to
Kenya to meet with healthcare practitioners to
begin the launch of her business.
