Belize is also known for the many Mayan ruins across the
country. From Caracol to Altun Ha in Belize City, history buffs
can step back in time, while trekking Mayan territory. Visitors
will feel as though they have been transported back to ancient
days, as they experience a piece of daily Mayan life. There are
also opportunities to see Mayan artifacts, as well as some
wildlife roaming the different grounds. Pack comfy shoes and
be sure to have your cameras ready to capture a piece of history. There are numerous group and private tours available to
those desiring to walk the paths of old, so come prepared be
to be amazed.
One of the best things to do on land is to indulge in the local
cuisine for a tantalizing gastronomic experience. From the
sweetest fruit to the freshest catch of the day, there is no
shortage of dishes for travelers to enjoy. Feast on everything
from the traditional Belizean rice and beans, to fry jacks, to
salbutes, while washing your parched palates with local cashew wine or a refreshing ginger and lime drink, which happens to be one of my favorites.
For dessert, you can satisfy your sweet tooth with Belizean
chocolate for the 昀椀nale. Travelers can choose from plant
-based dishes to a variety of meat and seafood, so be sure to
bring your appetite with you.
Visitors should also consider walking and hiking tours to
learn more about the nation’s history. Be sure to include a
trip to local art galleries to support local artists and artisans.
There are guided groups and solo tours available for excited
trekkers to join.
For lodging guests can choose from various hotels and even
short-term rentals during their stay. On the mainland travelers can rent vehicles or cover the area via taxi. On Ambergris
Caye, the best mode of transportation is golf carts, which can
easily be rented, and on Caye Caulker golf carts and bicycles
are ideal options for exploration.
Depending upon where you choose to stay, whether on the
mainland, or on one of the islands, which you can easily access by a short airplane ride (with some of the most incredible views), or boat, you will not be disappointed with your time
in this Central American jewel. Expect to be met with smiling
faces and warmth at every turn. Belize it!
Example of a day, Ambergris Caye San Pedro:
Day 1. Tourists can start their day with breakfast at Victoria’s
House, followed by an afternoon adventure by vehicle or golf
cart across town to spend the day at Secret Beach. On their
way back, they can swing by the Juice Dive for some fresh
juice, and then down to the Belize Chocolate Factory for some
sweets, and still make it back to Alaia Belize in time to refreshen up and relax a bit before dinner.
