Advanced Orthopedics/Summit Orthopedics Division in Washington, DC, and serves as an associate
professor of orthopedic surgery at Howard University Hospital. He was honored as one of “Washington’s

Recalling Field’s teachers ... "They live for education and extracting the very best from you.
Even if that meant tough love."
~Dr. Marc Rankin ‘88
Marc's passion for and interest in orthopedic surgery initially stemmed from
watching his father's professionalism and care for his patients in the same
field. After completing his Field internship at Columbia Road Health Clinic,
he knew this was the path he wanted to pursue. "I saw the need to care for
those with few resources. It shaped my perspective into what delivering
quality health care was all about."
Marc graduated from The Field School in 1988, earned his B.A. in Biology from Hampton University, a M.D.
in Orthopedic Surgery from Howard University, and completed a fellowship in sports medicine at the
Cincinnati Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Surgery Center. Following his formal education, Marc began his
20-year-long career in Washington, DC, where he enjoys spending time with his family, playing tennis and
basketball, skiing, and painting.
