Rep. Huffman Announces
More Than $8.5 Million For
Humboldt Bay Port Development
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Jared Hu昀昀man (CA-02)
announced that $8,672,986 has
been awarded to the Humboldt Bay
Harbor, Recreation, and Conservation District to support the development of an o昀昀shore wind terminal.
This planning project will fund
studies, site design, and permitting
activities for a heavy-lift o昀昀shore
wind terminal at the Redwood Marine Terminal. The grant will also
fund the creation of a bay-wide
master plan for o昀昀shore wind development and project management
and grant administration expenses.
“The Biden-Harris administration
and Democrats have made serious
commitments to ramp up renewable
energy with the transformative investments we made in the In昀氀ation
Reduction Act and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. O昀昀shore wind is
an important part of that equation,”
said Rep. Hu昀昀man. “My district
in Northern California has some
of the best areas available to help
meet the administration’s o昀昀shore
wind energy goals, and I’m glad I
could help secure this grant to sup-
port the development of one of the
昀椀rst o昀昀shore wind projects on the
West Coast.”
“The district is grateful for all the
support we have received from our
state and federal partners,” said
Humboldt Bay Harbor, Recreation,
and Conservation Commission
President Greg Dale. “As this project moves forward, the district is
committed to working with the
community, 昀椀shermen, and tribes
to minimize the impacts and maximize the local bene昀椀ts.”
Funding for this project comes
from the FY2023 Port Infrastructure Development Program (PIDP)
and was disbursed by the Department of Transportation’s Maritime
Administration. In Fiscal Year
2023, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) appropriated $450
million to the PIDP. An additional
$212,203,512 was made available
to the program under the FY2023
Consolidated Appropriations Act,
resulting in a total .of $662,203,512
in FY 2023 PIDP grant funding.
