Scope of works
This prestigious project involved the iconic Piccadilly
Circus buildings at 1 Sherwood Street, 8 Glasshouse
Street, 4-6 Glasshouse Street, and 11-17 Shaftesbury
Avenue. The project was delivered in two phases, phase
one being a careful dismantle of the existing facades on
Sherwood St and Glasshouse Street, with the repair,
restoration and alterations to the existing historic
stonework made off site. Phase two was the reinstatement
of the facades including some modification and façade
stretching at higher levels and the installation of a new
faience façade on Shaftesbury Avenue as a replica of the
former damaged historic one.

Glasshouse Street is a four-story Grade II listed Portland
stone building with a granite plinth, glazed brick to the
rear and a slate roof with stone chimney stacks. The
ground floor level was retained, and the stonework above
carefully dismantled. The ground floor housed the famous
Jewel Bar. 11-17 Shaftesbury Avenue is a painted stone
façade at ground level with a cream faience façade above.
The ground level was retained and the faience above
dismantled. All decorative pieces were salvaged to create
new molds from, and the faience elements replaced with
like for like new pieces during the rebuild.
Before any dismantling works took place all the facades
were carefully surveyed and recorded with each stone
photographed and marked up on façade survey drawings.
Property 1 Sherwood Street and 8 Glasshouse Street is a
four-story load bearing structure with two Bath stone
Phase two involved the rebuilding of the salvaged Bath
and Portland Stone facades including stretching the
facades at the top level, and the rebuilding of the faience
façade with new like for like elements.
