The team have carefully worked round the building,
moving into different areas and back again as scaffold
access became available and stone was measured, ordered,
and delivered from our suplier Lovells. Our talented
masons have had to contend with the fact that each and
every stone is a slightly different shape, with no two set of
mouldings the same. Fitting each new stone involved a
large amount of millimetre shaving of material to get the
new sections into position, and once the glazing was
refixed, trimming in and mortar repairs could be done.
The project has been very challenging for our team, who
have needed to work in extreme weather conditions of
heat in the early part of the summer to what has felt like
endless rain since then (all of which will impede works).
Cliveden Conservation are lucky to work on some incredible buildings, and the works at the museum have been
very much helped by the surrounding contractors and
client team. We’ll look forward to returning when all of
the scaffold is removed and the museum is opened again
fully to the public.
