INDUSTRIENS PENSIONSFORSIKRING A/S
INTRODUCTION
In the past year, Industriens Pension continued
to establish an even more climate-friendly
portfolio via investments, e.g. in renewable
energy and sustainability-certified buildings.
Introduction
Industriens Pension's raison d’être is to create
financial security for retired industrial employees
in Denmark with savings in the company. Our job
is therefore to ensure efficient portfolio
management of these savings, which are to
supplement the state retirement pension for
pensioners.
At the same time, society has legitimate
expectations that the growing pension assets
contribute to sustainable development of
society. This is also an aim for Industriens
Pension, and we believe that, by investing
responsibly while at the same time being an
active investor, we can protect and increase
returns for members.
Finally, clearly we also need to reduce
Industriens Pension's own climate and
environmental footprint and ensure proper
conditions for employees.
Investments support security of supply
The year 2022 was an unusual year in every
way, and at Industriens Pension Russia's war
against Ukraine also left a direct mark on several
aspects of the company. We sold off all Russian
assets except for a few non-realisable positions.
Furthermore, Russia's response to Western
sanctions, which led to soaring energy prices,
made the EU and the US focus on the
possibilities of becoming independent of
Russian energy exports.
At Industriens Pension, we have been focusing
for a number of years on investing in renewable
energy infrastructure that helps reduce society's
dependence on fossil fuels. In the current
situation, with increasing energy prices,
investments in renewable energy were
conducive to achieving security of supply in the
energy area.
Full speed ahead for active ownership
We believe that our corporate social
responsibility as a business covers all of the
above. This report focuses on our investments
and on many other aspects concerning the
business. However, the main focus of the report
is on investments.
Industriens Pension was a particularly active
investor in 2022 as well, both in terms of voting
at general meetings and through dialogue
processes with companies. We collaborate with
other investors to influence companies in a
responsible direction, and this is one of the
subjects of this report.
We took a further step in our efforts to create a
climate-friendly portfolio by joining the global
investor network: Net-Zero Asset Owner
Alliance. This means that we must set
intermediate targets every five years to reduce
carbon emissions on investments, and ensure
that our total investment portfolio is carbonneutral by 2050, and preferably sooner.
A common theme in our new strategy
plan
In the coming years, we will accelerate our
efforts to create a more sustainable portfolio. A
common focus throughout Industriens Pension's
business strategy for 2023-2025 is sustainable
investment and sustainable management.
In the coming years, we will therefore focus on
how we can reduce the climate footprint of our
portfolio. We will also be working intensely on
expanding our data basis regarding ESG issues
in all our investments, including unlisted assets.
This is extensive work and requires initiatives
across departments in the company.
In this report, we focus on Industriens Pension's
general approach to responsible investment and
corporate social responsibility, as well as on our
initiatives and work in 2022. The report also
contains information that is compulsory
according to sections 132, 132a and 132d of the
Executive Order on Financial Reports for
Insurance Companies and Multi-Employer
Occupational Pension Funds.
