INDUSTRIENS PENSIONSFORSIKRING A/S
ongoing follow-up on the progress of their
transition.
Focus on renewable energy
Industriens Pension has made substantial
investments in renewable energy and other
solutions that contribute to the transition to a
sustainable society.
We have make large investments directly in
renewable energy sources in the form of solar,
wind and biogas. Together with the Danish solar
energy company Better Energy, Industriens
Pension owns a portfolio of 21 solar farms in
Denmark and Poland. Eighteen of the farms are
already in operation, and when the remaining
farms are up and running, together they will
have a capacity of approx. 1 GW. This
corresponds to annual green electricity for
approx. 160,000 Danish and 120,000 Polish
households.
In 2022, Industriens Pension concluded yet
another agreement with Better Energy on the
establishment of a further approx. 15 solar farms
in Denmark, Sweden and Poland in 2023 and
2024, with a total capacity of a further 1 GW.
The problem with investments in photovoltaic
solar modules is that the majority of the world's
production comes from China, where labour
conditions are difficult to control. In collaboration
with other manufacturers, Better Energy does all
it can to secure their supply chains in China, but
Chinese legislation makes it difficult to control
extraction of raw materials because mining
companies are bound by professional secrecy
when it comes to production conditions.

INVESTMENT IN A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
Through direct investments, Industriens Pension
is also co-owner of two offshore wind farms in
Germany, which together have a capacity of 0.5
GW.
In addition to investments in solar and wind
energy, we have also invested in Bigadan, one
of Denmark’s leading biogas companies.
Transition to renewable energy is an integral
part of Bigadan’s business model. The biomass
used to produce biogas comes from waste
products, and around 60% of this is slurry from
Danish agriculture. In biogas production,
methane is captured in the biogas plant and sent
into the gas grid or converted to electricity and
heating. One of the advantages of biogas is that,
unlike solar and wind energy, it can be stored
and thereby used when needed. Bigadan is
currently producing 1.2 TWh from its nine Danish
biogas plants, corresponding to the annual gas
consumption of approx. 70,000 Danish
households.
Pension's investment strategy in the coming
years.
Sustainable properties
Industriens Pension aims to be an active player
in developments towards a more sustainable
construction sector. Therefore, our property
investments focus on optimising resource
consumption with regard to recycling,
biodiversity, low environmental impact and
energy-correct operation.
Our new buildings must have DGNB Gold
sustainability certification as a minimum. 2 The
DGNB standard was selected as it is a
recognised and holistically oriented certification
scheme that takes into account the lifecycle of
building materials, energy consumption etc.
before, during and after construction.
Moreover, work on classifying our existing
properties commenced in 2022. The goal is to
determine the status of the total portfolio and to
gain an overview of where to take action to
improve the sustainability of existing properties.
An example of a major ongoing urban
development project in which Industriens
Pension has invested is the new sustainable
urban area, Landskabsbyen, in Egedal
Through our fund investments in infrastructure,
in 2022 we also invested in a number of
solutions that help support the transition to a
sustainable society. These include investments
in solutions to capture and store carbon particles
from carbon-intensive companies, charging
stations for electric cars, and investments in next
generation renewable energy types, including
Power-to-X where electricity and water are
converted into hydrogen that can be used
directly by transport or industry.
Investments in infrastructure will continue to
account for a central part of Industriens
