Pull out and keep
Edited by Katie Pailthorpe
My after-school choir has just been performing in Exeter to
launch an album, which we recorded at the world famous
Abbey Road studios!
Teachers Rock is an
intergenerational choir set up by
musician Debbie Kent. Recording at Abbey Road
was surreal! We got the bus from South Molton at
7am, and there was just time when we arrived to
do a conga across the zebra crossing made
famous by the Beetles
on the Abbey Road album cover! As you walk into
the studios, there are posters everywhere
reminding you of the acts that have been there
before you4it was surreal to be in the same
building that Adele, Take That, The Beetles
themselves had worked in. And my favorite, Harry
Styles4you could totally feel Harry9s aura in Studio
1, which is where we recorded! It9s a massive room with space for our pianist
and guitar player. There was a bunch of younger
kids singing solos for the very
orst song, and just hearing them
singing their hearts out was
incredible! We recorded eight
tracks for the album, and we had
to sing each one six or seven
times to get the acoustics and
timings right. We launched the
album at an event in Exeter, and that9s when I realised how
much work Debbie had put into it all. And now I can tell my kids `I recorded
an album at Abbey Road!9 For a video of the recording session see the extra
content page online.
