“We have also been involved in the restoration of a
Robert Adam ceiling at the Grade I listed Chandos House
building, working closely with Butler Hegarty Architects,
the client and conservation officers.
“The Mercers’ was incorporated under a Royal Charter
in 1394 and past members include Sir Winston Churchill.
The Mercers’ Company is a livery company focused on
being a philanthropic force for good with a history dating
back over 700 years.
“Chandos House was designed by Adam, the most
prominent architect in Georgian Britain, and is viewed as
the first of a series of large townhouses created in the
capital. It also served as the Austrian Embassy for part of
its life.
“We were involved in decorating internal walls, ceilings,
plaster cornices, exposed timber beams and joinery items
using traditional and contemporary materials. Our brief
also included the decoration of external masonry and
render, window surrounds and doors, pavement railings
and new gravity rainwater drainage systems, and paint
removal from double hung sash window shutters and
associated timber.
“Our task here was to provide period-correct paint
restoration of the first floor reception room ceiling and
walls in selected areas of the building. More specifically,
the redecoration of Robert Adam’s decorative plaster
ceiling required paint analysis and sample colour schemes
approved by the client and conservation officer, as these
redecorations needed to be completed in line with period
and listed requirements.
“It is always a pleasure working on exciting projects such
as these and taking immense pride in the end result.
Artisan Painting & Decorating regularly partners, principal contractors, architects, interior designers and industry
leading suppliers to ensure that all our work is carried
out to the highest specification and always meets the
requirements of our client.”
“We teamed up once again with Knight Harwood on a
project at Frederick’s Place in the City of London - a
new-build office scheme for the Mercers’ Company
attached to a listed building. The work will bring the
Georgian House portion of construction back into use as
both a residential and commercial office space.
