A Better Way to Manage Your Everyday Money - Book - Page 47
My testimonial
I love PerNetFlow. Partly because I wrote it,
of course, but even more importantly
because using the program keeps Lois’ and
my everyday money in perspective. We
know at all times where we stand
financially. There is no guesswork in money
decisions. You’d be amazed how easy it is to say no to a purchase when you know exactly how it
will affect your net cashflow (discussed in Chapter 5).
We have four passive incomes (discussed in Chapter 6 but for now just know that we don’t work
for any of our incomes). We use PerNetFlow to manage the income that we receive each month
on the 1st, the 2nd Wednesday, and the 4th Wednesday. These three monthly paychecks comprise
our everyday money.
The fourth income is a royalty, which is unpredictable. We have no idea when a check will
arrive, nor what the amount will be. When we receive a royalty check, we deposit it into a
savings account, which serves as our financial reserve. You would probably call it your
emergency fund, but I prefer not to use that label. Having an emergency fund, to me, implies that
I expect to experience an emergency. And a reserve fund is something we can draw on for large
purchases without feeling that we are lessening our ability to handle unexpected expenses.
I do not wish to imply that how Lois and I use PerNetFlow is how you should use the software.
The program provides the means to handle all six of the money activities that everyone does or
would like to do while being flexible as to how those activities are managed. It’s kind of like
learning to drive. First, you learn the traffic laws. Then you find out what the controls in a
vehicle are: how they work and when you use them. Then you get to practice driving to prepare
for your driving test. Once you become a driver, you begin to develop your own style at the
wheel. The controls in a car are standard, but how you use them determines what kind of driver
you are.
Becoming a driver is very similar to becoming a confident manager of your everyday money. In
this book you will learn the basics of how your household finances work. You will find out about
the six parts of your everyday money and how PerNetFlow provides a standard platform for
managing them. The features in the program are standard for everyone, but like the controls on a
car, how you use PerNetFlow will be unique to you.
