Planning for the Future – Creating a Vibrant
Community Hub
As the renovations continue into 2025, attention is also
being given to the implementation of the Activity Plan.
This ambitious programme aims to breathe new life into
the renovated church, transforming it into a vibrant community hub, featuring interpretive displays showcasing the
church’s heritage, a pop-up café and seasonal events to
bring people together and foster a sense of community.
Project lead Rhoda Herbert expressed her enthusiasm for
the progress made so far: “It’s wonderful to see the essential
restoration work for St. Mary’s underway and to begin planning activities for the wider community alongside our new team
members. After over a decade of careful preparation, reaching
this milestone and watching our vision come to life is incredibly
rewarding. We’re deeply thankful not only to National Lottery
players and the Heritage Fund for making this dream a reality
but also to the many others who have contributed financially
to enable this to happen.”
Through the dedication of its community, the support of
generous donors and a team of restoration experts, The
Way Forward project is not just restoring a building but
revitalising a cherished symbol of heritage and community
spirit. St Mary’s Church is poised to remain a cornerstone
of Stebbing life for centuries to come, embodying
resilience, history, and hope.
