elevate the room both aesthetically and functionally.
sawtooth, offering an elegant blend of style and functionality. To bring this vision to life, the design team at The
Rooflight Co worked closely with Simon from the earliest
project stages, collaborating with structural engineers,
Quorum, to ensure the design was both visually striking
and structurally sound.
As Simon Merrony reflects: “Having worked with The
Rooflight Co before on a project to create a bespoke rooflight
that sat seamlessly amongst solar panels, we knew their team
would be able to provide the expertise and product we needed.”
The bespoke Conservation Plateau Rooflights are custom
designed with a specially crafted base frame structure that
aligns with the kerb and vertical glazing. The frames also
feature additional upstand and abutment detailing, ensuring a completely weather-tight installation. Together
with the crittal vertical windows below, the result is a harmonious combination of modern glazing and industrial
aesthetics, achieving a bright, stylish, and welcoming
living space.
This project exemplifies how bespoke top lighting solutions can go beyond function to become key architectural
features that transform a space. The unique sawtooth
rooflight design at this Kew residence is not merely a practical addition, but an architectural statement that brings
light and energy into the home while honouring its historical context. By combining high-performance glazing
with striking design, the project achieves the perfect balance of aesthetic impact, natural light, and energy efficiency. This bespoke approach demonstrates the
importance of tailoring solutions to a property’s specific
needs, ensuring that each design choice serves both
beauty and practicality for years to come.
The carefully selected glazing specifications also
contribute to the space’s comfort and energy efficiency.
The rooflights incorporate an 8mm Cool-Lite outer
glazing panel paired with an 8.8mm laminated inner pane,
offering both solar control and thermal performance. This
combination achieves a G-value of 0.36 and a light transmission of 68%, striking the ideal balance between natural
light and solar control.
