A Brief History of Our Great Clan
Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. , a college Fraternity, now comprised of functioning Undergraduate and
Alumni Chapters on major campuses and in cities throughout the country, is the crystallization of a dream.
It is the beautiful realization of a vision shared commonly by the late Revered Founders Elder Watson
Diggs; John Milton Lee; Byron Kenneth Armstrong; Guy Levis Grant; Ezra Dee Alexander; Henry Tourner;
Asher Marcus; Peter Blakemore; Paul Waymond Caine; Edward Giles Irvin and George Wesley Edmonds.
It was the vision of these astute men that enabled them in the school year 1910 - 11, more specifically the
night of January 5, 1911, on the campus of Indiana University at Bloomington, Indiana, to sow the seed of a
fraternal tree whose fruit is available to, and now enjoyed by, college men everywhere, regardless of their
color, religion or national origin. It is a fact of which KAPPA ALPHA PSI is justly proud that the Constitution
has never contained any clause which either excluded or suggested the exclusion of a man from
membership merely because of his color, creed, or national origin. The Constitution of KAPPA ALPHA PSI is
predicated upon, and dedicated to, the principles of achievement through a truly democratic Fraternity.
Chartered and incorporated originally under the laws of the State of Indiana as Kappa Alpha Nu on May 15,
1911, the name was changed to KAPPA ALPHA PSI on a resolution offered and adopted at the Grand
Chapter in December 1914. This change became effective April 15, 1915, on a proclamation by the then
Grand Polemarch, Elder Watson Diggs. Thus, the name acquired a distinctive Greek letter symbol and
KAPPA ALPHA PSI thereby became a Greek letter Fraternity in every sense of the designation.

"THE MATRIX CHAPTER" 1950-2020
On March 6, 1950, the Fort Valley Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated was
founded in Fort Valley, Georgia. The charter members were Brothers Joseph E. Adkins, Francis Bradley,
William Dugas and Cardell Wynn. The first Polemarch of the Chapter was Brother Cardell Wynn. Brother
Joseph Adkins was instrumental in the founding and prosperity of the Gamma Zeta Chapter, which he
served as Advisor to for many years. The first initiates were Brothers Lewis A. Lee, Jr. and William Henry
Travis. Brother Lee was the Keeper of Exchequer for many years. Brother Travis served the Chapter and the
Southeastern Province as Keeper of Records.
The Macon-Warner Robins Alumni, formerly the Fort Valley Alumni, took its present name in the early
1990s, more specifically on May 22nd, 1992. Less than five years later, the chapter purchased a fraternity
house, which is located at 2080 Napier Avenue, Macon, GA 31208. Past Polemarch Jerome James, a
prominent local realtor, played a significant role in this accomplishment in 1997. Over the years, the
Alumni Chapter has grown and prospered as an active force promoting achievement and rendering
countless hours of service in the Middle Georgia area. Annually, significant scholarships are awarded to
high school youth from the Baldwin, Bibb, Houston, Macon and Peach County schools. There are presently
over seventy five high school males being mentored in our Guide Right Kappa League Klusters in Macon,
Milledgeville and Warner Robins. Brother Vincent Stewart, Sr. continues to serve as the local Guide Right
Chairman. Due to the tireless efforts of Past Polemarch Lamar Maxey, the “Diamonds On Our Minds”
Foundation ( 501 (c ) 3 ) was established. Due to the chapters’ relentless dedication to Guide Right Kappa
League, national recognition was garnered for the “National Kappa League Signing Day”, chaired by
Brother Merritt Johnson. This first annual event was held to recognize all graduating Kappa Leaguers who
had been accepted to and were slated for entrance into college based on their academic prowess and not
due to athletics alone.
