Tips for open day/night
Consider using
devices (tablets, etc.)
if they are used as a
learning tool in
your school.
Set up a number
of activities for students
to engage in. Include
a variety of individual
and pair/group
activities.
Showcase students' work
on the walls. Some activities that
are visually attractive include calligrams,
wanted posters, favourite foods, information
about the language, where it is spoken, how
many people speak it, etc. You could set
these up as a project for your students.
Make sure they are on A3 size paper,
otherwise they look very
small on the walls.
Play music from
the target language
countries.
Ask students to
prepare a Flipgrid video
about why they like learning the
language (Set up an iPad which
visitors can use to listen
to the videos).
Ask some chatty
enthusiastic students
to help out aslanguage
ambassadors.
Set up a
small food
tasting
corner.
Contact embassies
or cultural institutes to
request posters or
merchandising.
Liaise with the home
economics teachers and
get students to prepare
food from the target
language countries.
If your library has
books in your language,
remember to have them
on show too.
Set up a rolling
powerpoint / slideshow
with photos of MFL related
events and student’s
work.

end of the day/night of what
worked well and what you would
like to change for next year. Most
of us forget from year to year.
Get some feedback from the
students who helped you.
