CYCLING
The mountain biking community in the region is
strong. From the bike shops to the trail builders,
everyone who’s involved in the biking community
is keen. From super-mellow family-friendly, doubletrack to heart-stopping downhills and gap jumps,
there’s a trail here to match your skill level. The
best guidance always comes from local bike
shops, so stop in, and ask where you should ride.
If you’re more of a road or gravel type, there
are routes for that too. Quiet country roads, and
twisting, challenging gravel roads abound in
Algoma. Local cycling clubs and bike shops are
great resources for popular routes.
SKIING, SNOWBOARDING &
SNOWSHOEING
Of course, you can’t forget winter up here.
Superior’s lake effect contributes to the significant
snowfall in the area. And whether you’re looking
to go downhill skiing, cross-country skiing or
snowshoeing there are incredible options for
each. Multiple resorts offer great downhill options,
complete with on-hill accommodations, rental
shops and restaurants.
World-class cross-country skiing options abound
with hundreds of kilometres to choose from. Many
of the trailheads have rental shops. The reliable
snowpack also means you can snowshoe nearly
anywhere there’s a hiking trail. And if you’re into fat
biking, you can get out on two wheels as well, just
be sure to stay on designated biking trails.
HIKING
The hiking here is undoubtedly world-class. There
are quick afternoon walks to visit waterfalls, epic
scrambles to magnificent vistas and everything
in between. There are even a couple of multi-day
options like the Coastal Trail in Lake Superior
Provincial Park.
If you’re into the outdoors and human-powered
activities, Algoma Country is a perfect destination.
The recreational opportunities are endless and with
top-notch accommodation options and a thriving
culinary scene, this may be your new favourite
travel spot. Why not come check it out?
